Operation of Non-Synchromesh
While manual non-synchromesh transmissions such as the Roadranger are declining and have become automated through Automated Manual Transmissions (AMT), many companies still prefer the trucks to be fitted with the manual option.
These transmissions require drivers to be skilled in the proper operation of them, but many drivers may have learnt how to use them only by ‘trial and error’ or through other drivers over a few beers. This can obviously result in poor transmission use shifting techniques which can lead to premature wear or damage to the full drivetrain.
This course takes drivers through the theory and practical elements for the correct operation of non-synchromesh transmissions including:
Explaining the operation of the clutch and gearbox (theory).
Listing the key points to be addressed by drivers when operating a non-synchromesh transmission (theory).
Demonstrating the correct operating techniques for synchromesh and non-synchromesh transmissions and clutches (practical).
